Digital Production Manager
Who We Are & Why This Role Matters
Every text message a progressive campaign sends is a bet—on the right words, the right audience, the right moment. Bluebird Technologies builds the proprietary texting and data segmentation software that makes those bets smarter. We help Democratic campaigns, PACs, and advocacy organizations turn contact engagement data into targeted SMS programs that drive Democratic fundraising, turnout, and persuasion at scale.
We’re hiring a Digital Production Manager to lead our texting production operation from the inside. This role sits at the intersection of people management, client strategy, data-driven optimization, and platform expertise. You’ll manage a team of Digital Production Associates, own the quality and performance of every campaign that goes out the door, and work cross-functionally with our data, engineering, and sales teams to continuously improve how Bluebird delivers results.
This is a priority hire. We’re building the production team now, and we want this manager in place to help shape it—including hiring and onboarding your own associates.
What You’ll Do
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Digital Production Associates—setting clear expectations, running regular check-ins, and creating growth pathways for junior staff.
- Lead hiring and onboarding for new associates, including screening applicants, conducting interviews, and designing training programs that get new hires producing quality work quickly.
- Build and maintain production SOPs, QA checklists, and workflow documentation so the team operates with consistency and minimal errors—even during high-volume campaign periods.
Production Oversight & Quality Assurance
- Own end-to-end quality for all P2P and broadcast SMS/MMS campaigns built on the Bluebird platform—reviewing scripts, verifying targeting segments, approving shortlinks, and signing off on sends before they go live.
- Design and enforce A/B testing frameworks across messaging, creative, and audience segments, ensuring every test produces actionable insights rather than noise.
- Monitor campaign performance in real time during high-stakes sends (GOTV pushes, fundraising deadlines) and make rapid optimization calls when needed.
- Train the production team on Bluebird’s proprietary tools and new platform features as they ship, serving as the team’s primary platform expert and the bridge between production and engineering.
Client Strategy & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as a strategic partner to clients—translating performance data into clear recommendations on targeting, messaging cadence, and budget allocation across texting programs.
- Coordinate with project managers to build, adjust, and execute client send calendars, balancing competing priorities across multiple accounts during peak periods.
- Collaborate with the data and analytics team to refine audience segmentation strategies, feeding production-level insights back into how Bluebird approaches voter targeting.
- Work with engineering and product teams to surface production pain points, request platform improvements, and beta-test new features before they reach the full team.
- Partner with the sales team to scope texting programs for prospective clients, contributing production estimates and strategic recommendations during the proposal process.
What You Bring
The Essentials
- 2+ years of experience in digital production, digital marketing, campaign operations, or a related field where you managed deliverables under tight deadlines with zero tolerance for error.
- Direct experience managing, mentoring, or leading a team—even informally. You know how to give clear feedback, delegate effectively, and develop people who are earlier in their careers.
- Strong analytical skills and fluency with spreadsheet tools (Google Sheets or Excel). You should be comfortable building performance trackers, interpreting A/B test results, and using data to drive decisions—not just report on them.
- Excellent client-facing communication skills. You can translate technical production data into strategic recommendations that non-technical stakeholders understand and trust.
- A systems thinker who builds processes proactively. When something breaks or slows down, your instinct is to design a better workflow—not just patch the immediate problem.
- Alignment with progressive values and a commitment to using technology to advance Democratic campaigns, advocacy, and civic engagement.
Bonus Points
None of these are required—but they’ll accelerate your impact:
- Experience with P2P or broadcast texting platforms (Hustle, ThruText, Spoke, Tatango, or similar).
- Familiarity with political advocacy CRMs like NGPVAN/EveryAction, or fundraising platforms like ActBlue.
- Working knowledge of political data services such as L2, Catalist, TargetSmart, or Aristotle.
- Previous campaign cycle experience at any level—as staff, consultant, or vendor.
- Experience hiring and onboarding entry-level staff in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
